AeGlobel Ventures VDS functions just like a normal dedicated server, giving you full control and full root access to be managed using a secure SSH connection. Each VDS environment looks and behaves exactly like a real networked server system, complete with its own set of init scripts, users, processes, filesystems, etc. The main features of a VDS which distinguish itself from a normal shared hosting plan are described in further detail here.

Data Integrity and Security

A VDS can run a single application per operating system environment. If a security breach is encountered, the threat will be isolated to a single VDS, leaving the integrity of the rest of the server and other VDS intact. For example, a security hole in Sendmail is exploited by a hacker. This hacker is then fully isolated in a VDS with no tools and no other network traffic going through the other VDS hosted on the same server.

Resource Management

VDS are fully isolated with minimum and maximum resource guarantees. Taking the example of the ProVDS, you will be guaranteed a minimum resource allocation of 100mhz processing power and 64mb of system memory. However, this does not mean that is the maximum amount of resources can consume. If there are ample free resources available and extra resources would speed up process execution, your VDS can automatically 'burst' to use up the available system resources. On the contrary, if another VDS on the same server attempts to consume additional resources at the expense of other VDS, the server will still dedicate the appropriate system resources as mentioned by your respective hosting plan. Due to fair-sharing technology, each partition can have almost the same power as the full server. Goodbye are the days whereby a runaway script on another website would cause yours to crash.

Dedicated hosting options require you to wait for hardware upgrades and plan for extended periods of downtime to physically swap equipment in.
